    Hi,

I have the mobile app and thinking about purchasing the mac version also.
Wondering if udp listening is possible if I use HTML 5 and web sockets ?

My knowledge in to web sockets is non existing but guess it is learnable.
Just thought I would ask before trying to figure it out.

If possible, where can I find short examples ?

    Hi Peter,

    there’s a good and a not-so-good-answer to your question:

the good one is that web sockets are really cool, you can have real-time communication that is really simple to set up and simple to use and it works in all modern browsers; that means it also works out of the box for Procoding and Procoding Mobile.

The not-so-good part of this answer is that WebSockets only allow Client-side communications due to security restrictions. That means, no client (Website running in a browser) will ever be able to listen to incoming connections (act as server). In other words: Processing on the desktop isn’t different to Procoding Mobile, both will only be able to initiate connections as clients.

I am thinking about adding OSC over a WebSocket communication and build that into Procoding, but I can’t say when this will available; it’s nothing that you should wait for (but I have it on my to-do list with a high priority).

However, it’s really simple to run a Websocket server with node.js; you just need to install node.js and run a short listener script. Thus, node.js can act as a gateway between two clients. Though (again), you won’t need Procoding for OSX for that.

Procoding for OSX is nice because you can type better/faster/nicer, it currently has a nicer resource handling (just drag & drop items) and features like (10.8.) Versions are really handy with iCloud.

Besides a general description on Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebSocket ), I definitely recommend to check out this page: http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/websockets/basics/

Here are the API docs and some more links: http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/apis/websocket

    Hope this helps,
    Best,
    Michael
